    Summary

    Aleksei Alekseevich Brusilov was a Russian general in the First World War, successively holding the posts of commander of the 8th Army, commander the south-western front and supreme commander in chief.

    After the Bolshevik’s ascent to power, he was arrested, but was soon freed and joined the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army. This article is a short biography of the general, with an emphasis on his political and military activity.
